Operation Rice Bowl, The Second Sunday of Lent

"God of all people, hear us as we join in prayer with our brothers and sisters in need. Bless our Lenten fasting, learning, and giving. May your generous love for your people be our guide as we reach out to all who live with hunger and poverty."
Operation Rice Bowl prayer

I cooked the Nicaraguan recipe. It was not as delicious as the Haitian one from last week, but that isn't really the point now, is it? People who are living in poverty do what they can. The point isn't deliciousness (though last week's was certainly repeat worthy even not during Lent), but solidarity.

Then, we read the bible story for the week from Mark 10:13-16:
13. People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.
14. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.
15. I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it."
16. And he took the children in his arms, but his hands on them and blessed them.
